Ancient Tree Survey at East Court

A team from Ashplats Conservation Group assembled in East Court on Sunday 8th May to identify, measure and record some of the veteran and ancient trees on the East Court Estate.

This is one of the tasks in the new Management Plan and should ensure that our most valuable trees are recognised and protected.

By measuring the circumference of the trees we can extrapolate that some of the older oaks with girths in excess of 5m probably emerged from acorns in the early 1700’s, i.e. just after the Great Plague and the Fire of London! A sobering thought.

Ashplats Conservation Group is supported financially by East Grinstead War Memorial Ltd.
